Lai Nam Thong (000064) [bj_065.1] |
A 19th century water (“toh) jar with delicate Chinese-inspired decoration that is similar on the body and the cover. It consists of large pink and orange flowers interspersed with smaller blue and pink flowers, bright blue blotches, and green leaves on a gold background, two gold bands with floral motifs on the upper body and mouth and a solid green band at the foot. The cover has an everted lip and a white knob with two tiers, the face of which is covered with gold; the gold finial is shaped like a lotus bud. The tiers and knob of this form are sometimes likened to a Thai chedi (a Buddhist monument). |
