A beautiful 19th century water (“toh) jar with Chinese-inspired decoration that is similar on the body and the cover. It consists of large white medallions, a pink and blue frame, a central lotus flower, yellow petals, and pink flowers alternating with yellow half-sized medallions with a pink and white frame and pink and green flowers; these medallions are aligned with bright blue bands with an exotic-cotton-leaf pattern. There is a broad white band with an intricate floral scroll motif at the mouth and foot and solid light blue bands at the lip and foot. The cover has an everted lip and a bright pink knob shaped like a lotus bud that is just about to open. |
